THE TRIP TO FEODOSIA, CRIMEA, UKRAINE.

Below is your navigation bar, click on any title to go the page. The item shown in RED is where you are now.

This is the "Park of the Dancing Waters". The park is located only a few yards from the public beach in Feodosia. The waters of the fountain are adjusted to music played on loud speakers until 11:00 in the evening. After dark colored lights are shown into the water spray creating a continuous light show. There are many small cafe's located nearby where you can sit, enjoy a beverage and watch the show. It's a very populat place to just relax.

Off to the Right are some maps of the Crimea -----------------------> Feodosia is in the upper Right hand section of the map on one side of a bay. It is shown as a shipping port and rail terminal. There is an Island at the mouth of the bay which can be seen from the bublic beach with the unaided eye. As the Island is a secret base the island is not shown on any maps. It's a local joke among the residents.
Here are some of the pictures I took and used in the book. The date on them should be 1998

In this map the Feodosia harbor is better seen. There is a text in a curved line just off the North Western shoreline. There is a picture of the Feodosia Electronics Building and the building housing the public bathroom at the beach in the top row of pictures over this text and at the far Right. It's directly over the picture showing the monolith. Try as I might I could not get the maps to overlay properly so there is a slight mismatch on the names of the places along the lower coast line. Please forgive me, I did my best. Please note the absence of the secret island in this picture also.
Unfortunately there are reminders of the failed government everywhere. This picture was taken on a former top secret rocket launching site. Slave labor was used to build the base, their cells are shown at the bottom of the picture. In the background is "Lady Mountain" called this for obvious reasons. The rockets were stored in a cave just out of sight to the Left of this area. We had a very nice time visiting the base. We had a "Shashlic" out in the woods on the base. Shashlic is marinated pork cooked over an open fire. Our host on the base is the man in the red and black shirt. The white dog belongs to our host as do two cats and another dog. His wife is in the blue green shirt. He is standing on the last item worked on by the slaves before the end. They were killed in the area where we're sitting.

Here is the outside the "Alexander Grene" Museum in Feodosia. The picture was taken in May, still a bit cold to wander about without a jacket. The man who lived and worked in this building was world famous for his writings about the sea. You are probably familiar with is his piece about "Red Sails". To the Left is the street leading from the beach up through the center of Feodosia. The whole area is rich in history and one could spend a week or so and still not see it all
We called this lady "The Chicken Lady". She sold only chicken and fish. The chicken legs were called "Noshka Busha" or "Bushes Legs" because it was President Bush who made the legs available in Ukraine. These are the same legs we buy here in our super markets for as little as $0.29 per pound. As with our Chiken Legs, these were also packed and frozen in Arkansas, U. S. A. Everything is sold by weight and the chicken lady's scale in shown along with a selection of counter weights.

Here Lyudmila chats with a ladies apparel store owner. The dressing room is located just behind thr knee height counter to their Left. The place is a tent and must be packed up and hauled off to the owners home each night and returned again in the morning. There is no security other than a pay off to the local Mafia for protection. From what I was told, the Mafia was a good bit more effective than the Police.

HERE IS A MAP OF THE CRIMEAN UKRAINE FEODOSIA IS SHOWN JUST ABOUT STRAIGHT UP FROM WHERE FEODOSIA IS TYPED IN THE TOP LINE. IT'S PICTURED AS A SHIPPING PORT AND A RAILROAD TERMINATES THERE. AS A MATTER OF INTEREST THERE IS AN ISLAND JUST A LITTLE WAYS OUT FROM THE PUBLIC BEACH. YOU CAN SEE IT WITH THE UNAIDED EYE. IT'S NOT LISTED ON ANY MAP OR SHOWN IN ANY WAY BECAUSE IT'S A MILITARY BASE AND A SECRET BASE AT THAT. IF YOU ASK ANYONE ABOUT IT, THEY SMILE AND TELL YOU THERE IS NO ISLAND OUT THERE.
